Success for Carl as he qualifies to deliver certified ADR training

We are very proud of Carl Crysell who is celebrating his recent accreditation to deliver

comprehensive dangerous goods driver training (DGDT).

Carl, who is our senior consultant and founder of CJC Transport Consultants, was already acertified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA). To qualify as a Dangerous Goods Driver trainer, Carl had to follow a stringent pre-approval audit before completing a comprehensive DVSA assessment which he passed with flying colours.

Carl says,

“This is something that I’ve been working towards for a long time. The process was intense but that was to be expected considering the seriousness of the subject matter. The journey involved cross-referencing my knowledge, my training style and my course materials – so having this accreditation means we can run specialised training courses so drivers can transport specific dangerous goods.”

This is exceptionally good news – not just for us as a business, as it allows us to expand our dangerous goods driver training provision – but for the local region.

With approximately 3,500 vessels and two million tonnes of cargo entering the Port of Great Yarmouth every single year (including significant volumes of gas and oil from the North Sea), there remains a huge logistical challenge to ensure all HGV drivers and management teams have the right licences and certifications in place to transport any form of dangerous or hazardous materials.

As you might expect, there is strict legislation surrounding the transportation of any type of dangerous goods. All drivers and managers must have a valid ADR licence which needs to be renewed every five years – failure to do so could risk unlimited fines and even imprisonment.

Supporting local businesses in Norfolk with dangerous goods training

Carl’s certification to deliver dangerous goods training is great news for the local region

because it allows us to expand our ADR training provision directly from our Great Yarmouth base.

We know there is significant local demand for dangerous goods driver training – led primarily by the growing expansion of the Port of Great Yarmouth.

While the Port plays an essential role in the North Sea's thriving offshore energy sector, it should also be noted that a year ago 20,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate entered Great Yarmouth via the MV Ruby. Additionally, the damaged  Stena Immaculate oil tanker was also pulled into the Port of Great Yarmouth for repair and assessment.

This means an increasing volume of dangerous goods and hazardous materials are being transported on local roads by local businesses. Therefore, there is a clear need for additional dangerous goods driver training provision in Great Yarmouth.

Carl’s qualification to deliver Dangerous Goods Driver Training (DGDT) means we will now be able to increase the quantity of ADR training courses in Norfolk.

With additional course dates available, it will become much easier for local businesses tobook a course and complete their training on a time and date that suits them. Instead of having to drive for miles to access their nearest course, a dangerous goods driver training course will be readily available here on their very doorsteps.

Carl says,

“For local businesses, this is great news. We can work directly with HGV drivers, employers and senior management teams in Great Yarmouth to offer more dangerous goods training courses than ever before. Our purpose-built training centre in Great Yarmouth has everything in place to deliver dangerous goods training. Everything has been approved by the DVSA, which means you can feel confident in the quality of the training provision.
We plan to increase the volume of our ADR training courses to meet local demand. As ADR licences need to be renewed every five years, we anticipate that there will be a constant flow of individuals needing to complete the training. We can work with local businesses to pre-book any ADR training dates so that any courses work in partnership with your business needs, minimising any operational downtime and ensuring that your team are compliant with the legislation.
This is a really exciting time – not just for CJC Transport Consultants, but also for the region. We hope to see more job opportunities and local business growth to coincide with the Port’s continuing expansion, and we’re ready and primed to help HGV drivers upskill themselves and remain safe and legal on the roads.”

If you’re ready to commit to a dangerous goods driver training course, or you need to renew your ADR licence, why not check out our next ADR training dates? Alternatively, talk to us about a dedicated course for your whole team.
